Con Community Orchestra
Rehearsals: Monday 6.30-8.30pm (Con Auditorium)
The Wollongong Con Community Orchestra is an inclusive all ages amateur symphony orchestra. Currently conducted by Ryley Gillen, the ensemble exists for the benefit of orchestral musicians in and around the Illawarra region. No audition is required. Players from intermediate to advanced are invited to participate. (there may be limited places for woodwind, brass, percussion). The Community Orchestra rehearses during term and plays at least four concerts per year.
The Con Artists
Rehearsals: Thursdays 6.30-8.30pm (Room 1/2)
Led by David Rooney and Mark Holder-Keeping, The Wollongong Conservatorium's all ages community band combines young up and coming Con students, adult community musicians, and some of the regions most prominent folk musicians, playing dissident and celebratory folk music from around the world. Fun and irreverent, The Con Artists are a carnival of percussion, wind, brass, accordions and fiddles.
Curious Rendition Orchestra
Rehearsals: Tuesday 7-8.30pm (Room 1/2)
The Curious Rendition Orchestra or CROW was conceived in 2014 with a mission to offer a Con Artists style ensemble at a slower pace for inexperienced adult musicians and comeback players. Since then CROW has developed an identify of its own. The band has appeared at Coledale Markets, Red Poiont Artists 'Art on The Grass', Jam n Bread, The Illawarra Folk Festival, Viva La Gong, HONK! Oz Festival of Street Music and the Perisher Peak Music Festival.
HONK! Oz . . .
The HONK! Oz Festival of Street Music was conceived by members of the Con Artists, with the first ever festival happening in January 2015. Operationally the Festival is run by The HONK! Oz Association, with bands coming from all around Australia to participate. The Wollongong Conservatorium of Music contributes by offering a series of HONK! workshops run by Con Community Music Ensembles staff in the lead to the Festival. For more information about HONK!
