The Con Artists
Rehearsals: Thursdays 6.30-8.30pm (Con Auditorium)
Led by David Rooney and Mark Holder-Keeping, The Wollongong Conservatorium's all ages community band combines young up and coming Con students, adult community musicians, and some of the regions most prominent folk musicians, playing dissident and celebratory folk music from around the world. Fun and irreverent, The Con Artists are a carnival of percussion, wind, brass, accordions and fiddles.
Curious Rendition Orchestra
Rehearsals: Tuesday 7-8.30pm (Con Auditorium)
Led by David Rooney and Mark Holder-Keeping, The Curious Rendition Orchestra or CROW was conceived in 2014 with a mission to offer a Con Artists style ensemble at a slower pace for inexperienced adult musicians and comeback players. Since then CROW has developed an identify of its own. The band has appeared at Coledale Markets, Red Point Artists 'Art on The Grass', Jam n Bread, The Illawarra Folk Festival, Viva La Gong, HONK! Oz Festival of Street Music and the Perisher Peak Music Festival.
HONK! Oz . . .
The HONK! Oz Festival of Street Music was conceived at The Wollongong Conservatorium by members of the Con Artists, with the first ever festival happening in January 2015. The HONK! Oz Association is now a separate non-profit, volunteer run organisation working in collaboration with The Wollongong Con, Wollongong City Council, Illawarra Folk Club and Merrigong Theatre. Bands come from interstate and even overseas to participate. Leading up to the festival, Con staff facilitate a series of workshops including Kids HONK!. For more information about HONK!
